Opuntia Gosseliniana var. Santa-Rita | Purple Prickly Pear 

Opuntia santa-rita is a very attractive species with colourful, round to ovate fleshy pads. The spines turn a rich purple colour in winter before changing back to a soft blue grey with warmer temperatures. This purple pad colouration also intensifies with direct sunlight and drought. The flowers are bright yellow and appear in the spring creating stunning contrast to the purple cactus pads. They are followed by small edible fruits which are edible. Opuntia gosseliniana var. santa-rita is frost hardy and a very decorative cactus which can add beauty to the indoor garden year round.
