Description
Trichocereus bridgesii (Bolivian Torch Cactus) | Echinopsis lageniformis
The Bolivian Torch (Trichocereus bridgesii, syn. Echinopsis lageniformis) is a tall, columnar cactus native to the high-altitude regions of Bolivia. Known for its striking blue-green stems and long, needle-like spines, this species makes an impressive addition to any cactus or succulent collection.
In its natural habitat, T. bridgesii can reach heights of 2–5 meters, producing slender, upright columns with 4–8 ribs. The plant’s spines range from golden to brown and can grow up to 10–15 cm long, creating a dramatic contrast against its smooth epidermis. Mature specimens may produce large, fragrant, white flowers that bloom at night, attracting pollinators such as moths and bats.
This species is highly adaptable and thrives in a range of climates, provided it is given plenty of sunlight and well-draining soil. It’s well-suited for ornamental landscapes, xeriscaping, and as a potted specimen in colder regions.
