Description

Coryphantha Vivipara var Neomexicana | Cold Hardy Cactus Seeds

Coryphantha vivipara var. neomexicana is a widespread and variable form of the Coryphantha vivipara complex, native primarily to New Mexico and surrounding parts of the southwestern United States. It is valued for its adaptability, cold hardiness, and showy spring flowers.

Coryphantha vivipara also known as Escobaria vivipara is a cold-hardy cactus native to Canada and the northern Great Plains of North America. Well adapted to harsh climates, this compact species forms low, rounded stems with dense spination and produces showy pink to magenta flowers in late spring to early summer.

Highly valued by collectors and gardeners alike, Coryphantha vivipara thrives in well-draining soil and is ideal for rock gardens, alpine plantings, and outdoor cactus displays in cold climates. When established, it tolerates freezing temperatures and seasonal snow cover, making it one of the hardiest cacti available. Coryphantha Vivipara occurs in dry valleys, plains and foothills; on open, gentle to steep rocky slopes and flats, with sagebrush or conifer species and grasslands. Different varieties occur in grasslands, woodlands, mountain forests, or deserts.

  • neomexicana is generally more widespread and variable.
