Its grows at an eleveation of 1,500–2,700 m (5,000–9,000 ft). Coryphantha Vivipara occurs in dry valleys, plains and foothills; on open, gentle to steep rocky slopes and flats, with sagebrush or conifer species and grasslands. Different varieties occur in grasslands, woodlands, mountain forests, or deserts.

  • Requires excellent drainage and a mineral-rich soil mix.
  • Full sun to bright light for compact growth and strong spination.
  • Water sparingly; keep dry during winter dormancy.
  • One of the best choices for cold-hardy cactus collections or outdoor rock gardens in suitable climates.
