Description

Trichocereus Peruvianus Matucana  | Peruvian Torch Cactus

Native to the Matucana region in Peru—recognized as the type locality for Trichocereus peruvianus, as formally described by Britton & Rose

Native to the highland region around Matucana, Peru, this exceptional form of the Peruvian Torch cactus is prized for its intense blue skin, robust columnar growth, and striking spination. Plants typically feature 6–9 well-defined ribs adorned with clusters of golden to brown spines that contrast beautifully against the glaucous-blue epidermis.

‘Matucana’ is known for its vigor and adaptability, thriving in warm, sunny climates and tolerating cooler nighttime temperatures. It’s a fast grower in well-draining soil, producing tall, upright columns that can reach impressive heights over time. Mature plants may reward growers with large, fragrant white flowers that bloom at night, a breathtaking display against the deep blue stems.
