Strombocactus Disciformis Cactus Seeds
Strombocactus disciformis is a rare geophyte, usually solitary. It is found in Mexico (Quetaro, Hidalgo and Guanajuato). It occurs in 19 known localities, and is experiencing a decline in mature individuals due to illegal overcollection. It grows in matorral on steep, limestone cliffs and slopes, mudrock alluvial cliffs along stream beds or nearly vertical canyon walls. Illegal collection for the ornamental plant trade is an increasing threat. This cactus is found in the Mexican trade of ornamental plants.
Grow one of the most unique and sought-after miniature cacti from seed. Strombocactus disciformis is a rare Mexican species prized for its flattened, disk-shaped body and intricate spiral pattern of tubercles that give it a sculptural, stone-like appearance.
This exceptionally slow-growing cactus remains compact, making it ideal for collectors, windowsill growers, and specialty cactus collections. Mature plants produce delicate cream to pale pink flowers from the crown, adding subtle beauty to this already striking species.
Native to limestone regions of central Mexico, Strombocactus disciformis prefers bright light, excellent drainage, and careful watering. Patience is rewarded with a long-lived, highly collectible specimen.
