This variety is defined by its striking large pads. They can grow to be many times the size of other varieties of cold hardy Opuntia. They can reach the size of a human hand once fully grown. Slower growing than others.

Pricky pear cactus will survive outdoors year-round throughout much of North America. This cactus is cold hardy to zone 2 a/b.
Produces juicy and edible red or purple fruits.
The prickly pear is one of only two native cacti species in Canada and is considered endangered, with only two small populations known to be persisting today.
