Description
Ortegocactus Macdougallii Cactus
Ortegocactus Macdougallii – Rare Lime-Green Collector’s Cactus
Native to a tiny, specialized region in Oaxaca, Mexico, is a clumping, slow-growing, cactus that form tiny bushes only few centimetres in size. Ortegocactus macdougallii is a monotypic genus—meaning it is entirely one-of-a-kind in the plant kingdom. Known for its mesmerizing, pale lime-green to distinctive gray-green skin, it features low, flattened tubercles (the small, bumpy structures on its body) accented by striking black or dark-brown spines. They tend to develop rust-coloured spots on them even in the care of the most accomplished growers. These rust-coloured spots are a common feature of wild plants too, and seems to help them to blend with the rust-coloured likens that grows in the background.
When spring arrives, this slow-growing gem rewards your patience with vibrant, funnel-shaped yellow flowers that provide a stunning contrast against its muted, sculptural body. It is a crown jewel for serious cactus collectors and indoor succulent enthusiasts alike.
