Description
Lophophora Jourdaniana Cactus Plant
The flower colour is a beautiful rose-violet and among the most showy of the Lophophoras.
There is much mystery surrounding this cactus, as it has never been found in the wild. Its origins are uncertain and it is widely believed it nursery produced. Others suppose Lophophora jourdaniana may perhaps be an hybrid between Lophophora williamsii and Lophophora fricii. Furthermore L. jourdaniana is sometimes called Lophophora williamsii var. jourdaniana by others further complicating its proper taxonomy.. These same group would label Lophophora fricii as Lophophora williamsii var. fricii. This is incorrect because, Lophophora fricii is not a variation of Lophophora williamsii, and also the breading of the two different species seems impossible. It is not possible to fertilize Lophophora jourdaniana with the pollen of Lophophora williamsii, nor with the pollen of Lophophora diffusa and Lophophora fricii. This further clouds the true origins of this spectacular cactus making it that much more fascinating.
